About IndyCar Series
The IndyCar Series is the top open-wheel racing series in North America. It's a 17-race calendar that runs from March through September, mixing high-speed ovals, road courses, and temporary street circuits. The Indianapolis 500 in May is the biggest race of the year. The season is underway, with the Indianapolis 500 coming up next month.
Top teams and drivers
Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing are the two heavyweights. Penske drivers include Josef Newgarden and Will Power. Ganassi fields Alex Palou and Scott Dixon. Arrow McLaren, Andretti Global, and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing are the other top teams. The field is deep. Any of eight or nine drivers can win on a given weekend.
The Indianapolis 500
The Indy 500 is the biggest race on the calendar. It's held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The race draws over 300,000 fans and millions of TV viewers. Qualifying is a two-weekend event, with the Fast Nine Shootout determining the front row. The race itself is 200 laps of pure speed and strategy.
Viewership
The Indy 500 pulls over 6 million viewers in the US alone. The rest of the calendar draws smaller but loyal audiences. The series has a dedicated following in the Midwest and across North America. International interest comes from drivers like Alex Palou (Spain), Scott McLaughlin (New Zealand), and Marcus Ericsson (Sweden).
Streaming options in the US
In a major change for 2026, all IndyCar races are broadcast live on the FOX network. Practice and qualifying sessions are on FS1 or FS2. The FOX Sports App streams all sessions for cable subscribers. FuboTV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV all carry FOX, FS1, and FS2. The INDYCAR App offers in-car cameras and live timing, but not full race streams in the US.
Streaming options in the UK and Europe
In the UK and Italy, Sky Sports provides live coverage of races, practice, and qualifying. In Spain, Movistar+ and #Vamos are the home of IndyCar, featuring Spanish driver Alex Palou. In the Nordics, Viaplay covers Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. In France, Canal+ is the broadcaster. In the Netherlands, Ziggo Sport carries the races. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Motorvision and Sky Sports provide coverage.
Global streaming with INDYCAR LIVE!
For fans outside the US and countries with broadcast deals, INDYCAR LIVE! is the direct-to-consumer streaming service. It offers full, uninterrupted live coverage of races, practice, and qualifying. A "Full Access" package is available for around $5 a month or $25 for the season. The service works in most countries without a local TV partner.
Streaming options in Canada and other regions
In Canada, TSN and REV TV provide coverage. In Latin America and Brazil, Disney+ (via ESPN) and Band Sport carry the races. In Australia, Stan Sport is the broadcaster. In Japan, Gaora Sports holds the rights.
