About Formula 3

Formula 3 is the first step on the FIA's single-seater pyramid, sitting below Formula 2. It's where the youngest talents in motorsport prove themselves before moving up. The 2026 season features 10 rounds, starting in Melbourne, Australia on March 6-8 and ending in Madrid, Spain on September 11-13. The season is in full swing, with the championship battle heating up.

What F3 is about

F3 is a spec series. All cars are identical Dallara chassis with Mecachrome engines. The drivers are teenagers from all over the world, fighting for a spot in F2 and eventually F1. The weekend format includes practice, qualifying, a sprint race, and a feature race. The sprint race is shorter. The feature race is longer. Points are awarded in both. The champion gets a Super License and often moves up to F2 the next season. The grid is packed with drivers from F1 academies.

2026 calendar

The 2026 season runs 10 rounds, all supporting Formula 1 weekends. The calendar starts in Melbourne, Australia on March 6-8. Rounds follow in China, Japan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, Monaco, Spain, Austria, and Great Britain. The season ends in Madrid, Spain on September 11-13. Each round features two races, so there are 20 races across the season. Pre-season testing took place on February 10-12, with coverage on the official Formula 3 website.

Viewership

F3 pulls around 5 million viewers annually. The numbers are strongest in Europe, where the series has a dedicated following. Hardcore motorsport fans watch F3 to track the next generation of F1 drivers. The series is also heavily scouted by F1 teams and academies. The feature races draw the biggest audiences, especially when top prospects are battling for the title.

Global streaming with F1 TV Pro

F1 TV Pro is the primary official streaming service for Formula 3. It offers live coverage of every practice, qualifying, sprint race, and feature race, plus on-demand replays. F1 TV Pro is available in selected countries. F1 TV Access provides timing data and full race replays, but not live coverage.

In the US, F3 is available live via ESPN+ and associated ESPN digital platforms. Apple TV+ holds exclusive F1 rights in the US starting in 2026, which may include some F3 coverage as part of the package.
