About CONCACAF Champions Cup
The CONCACAF Champions Cup is the top club soccer tournament in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. It's the region's version of the Champions League. The tournament runs from February through June, with the winner earning a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. The knockout rounds are in full swing, with the semifinals set for later this month.
Top teams
Liga MX clubs have historically dominated this tournament. Club América is the most successful team in CONCACAF history. Pachuca and Monterrey have won multiple titles in recent years. On the MLS side, the Seattle Sounders won it in 2022, becoming the first MLS club to do it in the modern era. Inter Miami is in the mix now with Lionel Messi. The Columbus Crew, LAFC, and Philadelphia Union are also regular contenders. The gap between Liga MX and MLS has closed over the last decade, but Mexican clubs still have the edge in this competition.
Format
The tournament expanded in 2024. It now features 27 teams from across the region. The format is a straight knockout bracket from the first round to the final. Every round is two legs except the final, which is a single match at a neutral venue. The early rounds can produce upsets — Caribbean and Central American clubs sometimes knock out the big MLS and Liga MX teams. The later rounds are usually dominated by the heavyweights.
Viewership
The Champions Cup pulls huge numbers, especially when Mexican and American clubs face off. The finals between Liga MX and MLS teams regularly draw 15 million viewers or more across both countries. The tournament is a massive TV event in Mexico. In the US, it's the biggest club soccer competition outside the European leagues. The addition of Messi with Inter Miami has only increased the attention this year.
TV options in the US
Coverage in the US is split by language. English-language matches air on Fox Sports (FS1 and FS2). Spanish-language coverage is on TUDN and other Univision networks. Both are cable channels. There's no free over-the-air coverage for the regular rounds. Some matches also stream on FuboTV and YouTube TV as part of their cable packages.
Streaming options
If you're cutting cable, you have options. FuboTV carries both Fox Sports and TUDN. YouTube TV has the same channels. Hulu + Live TV also works. There's no standalone streaming service for the tournament itself. You need a live TV package that includes the channels. The finals are usually on the main Fox network, which is easier to access, but the early rounds are on FS1 and FS2.
International viewing
In Mexico, the tournament airs on Televisa, TV Azteca, and TUDN Mexico. In Canada, DAZN carries the matches. In Central America and the Caribbean, coverage varies by country. For fans in Europe and other parts of the world, the tournament is harder to find. Some matches show up on regional sports networks, but there's no global streaming deal. International fans often rely on local broadcasters in Mexico or the US for coverage.
Current season
The 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup kicked off in February. The knockout rounds are happening now in April. The quarterfinals are wrapping up, with the semifinals scheduled for later this month. The final is set for June at a neutral venue in the US. Club América is the defending champion after winning the 2025 edition. Inter Miami, with Messi, is still in the hunt and is the biggest draw in the tournament this year. Liga MX clubs are trying to reclaim their dominance after MLS clubs made deep runs last season.
